In 2010 we spent our long annual holiday in Australia.
Ralph wanted to see the Australian outback. We planned this trip such that we started out from Adelaide with a trip on the Ghan to Alice Springs and from there we took a 4WD camper and discovered the "Red Centre". Just before the end of the trip I was "allowed" once again to go on a train journey - with the Pichi Richi Railway, which was an absolute highlight for me.
Although I was extremely sceptical before we started our journey; after all in the centre of Australia there is only heat and dust (!!), I was amazed at just how varied the desert can be. I have to add that we had some amazing luck because 2010 was one of the wettest years on record in the desert, and the heavy rainfall caused the desert to be decorated with a mass of colourful wildflowers. I would even do the same trip again :)
